Countertops are the surface you touch most in a kitchen, and in Northern Virginia all three premium options — quartz, granite and quartzite — install for roughly $65 to $185+ per square foot. The right choice depends less on price and more on how you cook, how much maintenance you'll actually do, and the look you're after.
Here's the honest comparison we give clients in our own showroom.
Quartz is an engineered surface — ground natural quartz bound with resin. It's what most of our clients choose, and for good reasons:
Best for: busy family kitchens, baths, anyone who wants beauty without a maintenance routine. You can see full-height quartz backsplashes in our Alexandria project.
Best for: serious cooks, anyone who loves natural variation, and budgets that want natural stone without quartzite pricing.
Not to be confused with quartz — quartzite is a natural metamorphic stone, harder than granite, with the luminous veining people usually want when they say "marble."
Best for: statement islands, waterfall edges, and anyone who wants marble looks that survive a real kitchen.
Usually, yes — especially exotic slabs. Common quartzites overlap with premium quartz pricing.
Both are beautiful and both demand real upkeep. We install them as accent surfaces — an island top, a baking station — more often than as full kitchens.
If your cabinets are sound, yes — new counters, sink and backsplash are a strong one-week facelift. We sell and install cabinets and countertops as a standalone service, not only within full remodels.
Want to see slabs in person? Visit our cabinets & countertops page or book a consultation — we'll bring samples to your kitchen and show the result in photoreal 3D before you order.
